Meetup 81

edit

@Bjenks, Calistemon, Dan arndt, Dwertyorga, Evad37, Gnangarra, JarrahTree, Mitch Ames, Samwilson, and MavropaliasG: Hi all! I've set a date for Meetup 81, ie Sunday 23 June 2024, as it's six months since the last Perth meetup. My suggestion is that we use the same venue as for the last one (WA Museum Boorla Boola Bardip cafe), but I'm open to suggestions. Public transport is now free every Sunday. Bahnfrend (talk) 12:17, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Bahnfrend: Thank you for the invite but I won't be able to make it. I will be in the Pilbara that weekend. Calistemon (talk) 12:21, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
not available on the 23rd the following Sunday on the 30th would be better. Gnangarra 13:07, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bahnfrend: The 23rd sounds good to me, or the 30th. Sam Wilson 13:08, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bahnfrend: I'm flying out to Japan on the 18 June - will be away until middle of July. So can only attend in spirit. Dan arndt (talk) 13:56, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Either 23rd or 30th works for me. Mitch Ames (talk) 01:34, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I can't make it on 30 June, so this meeting will have to be on 23 June. However, I'm going to suggest that we revert to monthly meetings from now onwards, with the next one probably on 21 July. Bahnfrend (talk) 05:05, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bahnfrend: Monthly again sounds good! I updated the meetup page to add the cafe; sounds like that's confirmed. Also added an event page to the WMAU site, so it's listed in coming events there. Sam Wilson 15:04, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Sam. I think your choice of venue is fine. See you at the meetup. Bahnfrend (talk) 12:47, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Meetup 82

edit

@Abelidoko49, Bjenks, Calistemon, Dan arndt, Dwertyorga, Evad37, Gnangarra, JarrahTree, Mitch Ames, Pauline Joseph WA, Samwilson, and MavropaliasG: The consensus at Meetup 81 was that we should revert to monthly meetings as in the leadup to the pandemic. Sundays are the suggested days. How about we make the next one Sunday 28 July, at a CBD venue TBA? Bahnfrend (talk) 09:13, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Bahnfrend: Sounds like a good date. Thanks for organising! Sam Wilson 12:30, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
That works for me. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:34, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Going back to monthly meetings is good. JarrahTree 12:46, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Maybe possible if its in the morning, but I have to leave before high noon. Gnangarra 13:36, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've now created the page. Bahnfrend (talk) 06:39, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Would anyone be interested (weather depending) in a a bit of a photo walk before or after? I was just reading about manhole cover documentary and thought we could do something like that. Sam Wilson 05:43, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and it turns out to be the Commons July challenge! Sam Wilson 08:32, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Meetups for Oct/Nov/Dec 2024

edit

@Bahnfrend, Bjenks, Dan arndt, Gnangarra, JarrahTree, Mitch Ames, Samwilson, Dwertyorga, MavropaliasG, and AtticEdit:

Boldly scheduled some meetups for the rest of the year, since no-one else had done anything since July

- Evad37 [talk] 23:49, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Evad37: Thanks! Good idea. Sam Wilson 00:05, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that - there are some suggested alternative dates and venues with reasons -
October - Sunday 6th October - to celebrate time changes in daylight saving in South Perth
November - Saturday 2nd November - to coincide with Maritime Day in Fremantle
December - Sunday 8th December - to have early christmas end of year in Perth

any other ideas? JarrahTree 00:27, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Good idea about the Maritime Day. Sam Wilson 01:28, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I'm not too fussed – but 6 October isn't that much notice (and is daylight saving something to celebrate? 🤔) - Evad37 [talk] 23:29, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
It was very good to get them up - the idea was to have days early in the month, and the November day fits with a real life event, (it has been a long time since we had an event near the zoo, also the sense of daylight saving that is rarely celebrated by anybody in any way) JarrahTree 00:36, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Evad37 and JarrahTree: I'm confused. We don't have daylight savings here! Or is this a South Perth thing? Have they got local time that's 6 minutes off the rest of WA? Sam Wilson 05:15, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's not WA - we have to check carefully which location in the east we are communicating with to work out our difference(s) - I have no problem with defaulting to the original date suggested, and the city - the problem is the November potential meetup is very close in time - also - there are other events in October that if there is more than one person interested - the open day at the Army Museum in Freo - Sunday 13th October might be a better idea - as we have in the past been to the zoo (or nearby) and freo prison - as a group, but not the army museum yet I dont think - JarrahTree 08:55, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Third Sundays of the month (20 Oct, 17 Nov, 15 Dec) don't work too well for me at 11:30. I'd prefer either a different date or a later time (after 12:30) if possible. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:40, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Updated days and request for feedback

edit
@Bahnfrend, Bjenks, Dan arndt, Gnangarra, JarrahTree, Mitch Ames, Samwilson, Dwertyorga, MavropaliasG, AtticEdit, and Ridiculopathy:
In view of discussion above - the October 13th Fremantle Army Museum and the November 2nd Fremantle Maritime Day - it would be good to see whether they are agreeable to those on the ping list! Thanks. JarrahTree 02:25, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
not really interested in the Army museum day, ok with maritime day, either way only once in Freo. Gnangarra 04:32, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree with JarrahTree's suggestions, but the originally nominated dates would also be okay with me. Perhaps in light of the seemingly limited interest in the Army Museum, we could just go with 6/10, then maritime day, then 15/12 (which is probably more convenient than the following week). Bahnfrend (talk) 09:18, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
By "Fremantle Army Museum" do you mean the Army Museum of Western Australia (Open Day, 13 October)? The Army Museum of Western Australia, including on the open day, requires identification for entry, so on principle I would not be visiting it. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:21, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Maybe not an official meetup, (in the the very limited terms of this talk page and its apparent scope) at least a couple of wikipedians will probably go to the Army Day - maybe we can call it Meetup 83 and a half - (anyone going please contact) - as even if it is only 2 or 3 going - in some terms, the opportunity is there and well worth the effort for possible photo ops - JarrahTree 07:58, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
absolutely agree with Mitch here we should not be promoting or supporting places that require photographic ID to enter this is utterly outrageous Gnangarra 04:10, 7 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
2 November, Maritime Day, works for me. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:34, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Made some updates based on the comments above [1][2][3]. Ping @Samwilson, JarrahTree, Ridiculopathy, Mitch Ames, Gnangarra, and Bahnfrend: - Evad37 [talk] 04:01, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that Evad! JarrahTree 07:58, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Next week sounds good, hopefully that still works for everyone. And I think for the Freo Ports open day we should figure out a place to meet otherwise it'll be hard to find each other. Sam Wilson 10:55, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

December #85

edit

Suggest we consider somewhere on the new Ellenbrook line, we still have Yanchep and Airport lines open to consideration along with bayswater being at the convergent of three lines and the changes there including refurbishment of the Bayswater Hotel Gnangarra 10:27, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

In the New Year yes, part of the general plan is to have meetings in 2025 with exactly that in mind. It would be something well worth considering, as there extensive changes happening, and although some anonymous editors have made considerable contributions already, to actually have a meetup even in Midland which is changing a lot as well, the whole metropolitan system is undergoing a big change, to focus on any one location at this stage, where we have small turn ups to the meetings - is probably a bit ambitious at this stage.
