Fawn colored Rattus rattus. Possible Rab38 mutation. Any interest?

edit

Hi all. I breed Rattus rattus for people to keep as pets. Someone found a Dark Eyed Fawn individual and, knowing my interest, gave her to me.

Since this color isn't known in Rattus rattus (Roof or Black Rats), I bred her with a tame, Agouti male. All of the offspring are Agouti, so it's recessive. Takashi Kuramoto at Tokyo Univrersity of Agriculture has expressed an interest in genetically testing her for the Rab38 mutation, so I'll be sending him some hair samples.

This is just a "ping" now to let you know that a peer reviewed publication is likely coming about this rat. In the meantime, if anyone is interested, here is a video of her nursing her agouti litter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK2WiUrzEGE

Golden hamster

edit

Hello, the wife of a hamster biologist recently got in touch on my talk page, sharing information about hamster captures in 1971, hoping that it could be added (here). I thought this might of interest to the project Lajmmoore (talk) 22:15, 28 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Merge Dongola gerbil into Greater Egyptian gerbil?

edit

The IUCN[1] and MDD[2] both seem to regard the Dongola gerbil (Gerbillus dongolanus) as a synonym of the greater Egyptian gerbil (Gerbillus pyramidum) - should the former be merged into the latter? Cheers, Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs) 02:40, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
