deadlines
editI notice in the recent newsletter that there is a deadline for faculty to apply for an ambassador. For a formal program, this is a necessary thing, but how and where can we best give the information that some wikipedians are available to some extent outside the program to provide assistance for courses regardless of deadlines? Not everyone who likes to work with college students likes to work only in formal frameworks. (And I would not be saying this were I not willing to work personally in this manner). - Hi, DGG. We'll certainly redirect any who don't qualify to WP:SUP where they can receive informal support from you and others. As for promoting the program, I encourage you to explore options such as a mailing list; I think that generally speaking, professors on this list signed up because they were interested in participating in this program. Update from the Wikipedia:Education Working Group
editSince 2010, the Wikimedia Foundation has actively supported university professors who engage students in making high-quality constributions to Wikimedia projects as part of educational assignments. On July 16 and 17, 2012, a diverse working group of Wikipedians and academics met to begin formulating an enhanced structure for the U.S. and Canada Wikipedia Education Program (WEP) to enable future growth and innovation. Between now and December 2012, the working group will develop a collaborative plan for the future of the WEP. The working group knows that the wider community wants and should have a voice in this process, and so a Request for Comment (RFC) will be issued within the next few months to solicit feedback from the Wikipedia community, educators and ambassadors.
