Project Page Outlines
editAll of you students in GEOG 430 should be posting outlines of your proposed page and some information about what the page will include. These can be posted on your talk page--they will link back to the course page if you have signed up there. There are some really great ideas out there, and I can't wait to read the final pages! Online Ambassador
editI have signed up to be an Online Ambassador for the course and do not see where I should be looking over outlines. Are they being posted somewhere else?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:37, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Formatting question
editAnyone care to explain to me how to: 1)put images on my page 2)link things in my page to other wiki pages 3)create separate paragraphs
Thanks! Marcucmr (talk) 18:09, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Marcucmr! To answer your questions in order:
- For images, use formatting like this: [[File:Wildpferde Tripsdrill.jpg|thumb|right|Horses in the woods]] to produce the image to the right. The "thumb" makes it a thumbnail, the "right" makes it right-aligned (you can also use "left" or "center" to make images left aligned or centered), and the last part is the caption. WP:IMAGES also has lots more information.
- For links, use two "[" marks on either side of the link. So, formatting like [[Horse]] produces Horse. WP:Linking also has more information.
- To create separate paragraphs, just make sure there is an empty line in between the paragraphs.
- I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any more questions - I have this page on my watchlist, so it will notify me when you answer here. Dana boomer (talk) 18:33, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks so much!! One more question, I had to redo all of my references and can't figure out how to incorporate them into my writing. Marcucmr (talk) 01:41, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome! I'm not sure exactly what you mean by incorporating them into your writing - I've had a look at your sandbox, and it seems you've been doing it with some of the references, especially the India WWOOFing ones? Basically, you just enclose the reference in <ref></ref> tags (the first at the beginning of the reference, the second at the end of the reference) and it pops in the reference at the right spot. References should of course have all the proper information - title, publisher, access dates for websites, authors if applicable, etc. - and there are several different kinds of templates that you can use to properly format the information. You can see one of these template families in practice (as well as examples of all of the answers to your questions above) by taking a look at a Featured Article such as Cleveland Bay or Icelandic horse. (My apologies that those are both horse breeds - it tends to be what I write about, and so they're the easiest FAs for me to find without going searching :) If you wanted more detailed information on integrating references, please ask - I may just be being dense! New question
editCan anyone tell me how to put up that class banner on my page or how to fix my references? If you look at my references they're all numbered too much...I only have like 10 or so references but it looks like I have a million! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.57.179.68 (talk) 03:33, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- To put the class banner on the talk page, copy this code: {{ WAP assignment | course = Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Geography of Crop Plants (Mary Handley) | university = James Madison University | term = 2011 Q3 | project = }} to the talk page. As far as your references, I'm not sure which article you're referring to - could you please link to it here or log in so that I can see your contributions? Thanks, Dana boomer (talk) 12:04, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Also, my pictures won't show up on my article page. Do you know why? Thanks!! Marcucmr (talk) 01:47, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- the first file does not exist. Maybe it previously did and was deleted. Also File:India climate zones probably should be File:India climatic zone map en.svg--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:56, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- To combine references, you use the named refs feature. I have done one in the article for you to use as an example, see this diff for the changes I made, and then view ref #5 in the article to see the final result. Dana boomer (talk) 23:59, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
