You do realise that the God Emperor of Dune was half-trout, don't you?? Are we sure we want to go down this road? :P The Land 12:36, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Would I be correct in presuming that this expression derives from The Fish-Slapping Dance? If so, I find it hard to believe that we don't have a link yet. Newyorkbrad 21:37, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you give this user a "Wet Trout Award", they will simply eat the trout.

Abuse of namespace.

edit

This is not funny. This abuse of the namespace should be deleted and the perpetrators punished. This should be a Christ-blessed article, and NOT A STUB, if Scientizzle is going to link to it from press releases. I hope you enjoyed your nice inside joke, turkeys, because now you look asinine. I hope it was worth it. 76.247.104.56 (talk) 02:50, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do not see any "humour" in this projectpage. Looks rather pathetic and childish. Billlogalneedslove (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 22:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's for people who know each other well enough on Wikipedia that they can tease each other publicly for making rather stupid mistakes. I believe the first use of it was when an admin accidentally deleted the main page. Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 16:56, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Template

edit

This isn't a template that you can put on someone's talk page, but the whack someone with a minnow page is. Should the trout be turned into a template to make it more consistent and to make it easier to hit people with it? some page -- TurtleBoy0 04:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

The trout is huge...

edit

I would like an option to be troutslapped with an smaller trout. Troutalt is the right size, but lacks the simplicity of a simple "WHACK!" is favor of a long explanation about "Spreading the WikiFun." Guy Macon (talk) 22:45, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

There are minnows to be whacked with... or are those way too small? Aurora Illumina 02:06, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I had to use a {{whale}} the other day   Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 03:59, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Minnow is not bad. A prefer the size of Troutalt but could live with Minnow. Alas, both alternatives lack the convenient troutslapping afforded by Template:troutme and Template:User trout. If you use either of those two trout-related templates, you are stuck with the huge trout. Guy Macon (talk) 11:35, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Minnow upgrades

edit

I've upgraded {{Minnow}} to support different alignments, floating to the left or right (e.g. to attach it to a talk page post without disrupting the page), and arbitrary CSS styling.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  01:57, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

It's older than 1995

edit

At University we had a similar "slap with a wet fish" emote on our text-based MUD at University of Leeds in 1991 and I dare say it was around before then on green screens. I think the early MUDs started in the 1970's. It was possible to play online between UK universities using UNIX commands to make the login. Emotes were like an early form of emoji. Maybe this counts as "Original Research" as I am one of those originally around before the www went live in 1993. :-) Oh, and this smiley is just as old too. More descriptive template?

edit

I'm thinking of making the trout templates more descriptive by having the ability for the templates themselves to tell who whacked you and why, instead of having the user explain themselves in a separate message. I've already made these modifications to the versions of the trout templates ported over to Uncyclopedia. What do you think? ARandomPage, the named space (Update them!) Wasn't "Wet Trout Slap" done earlier?

edit

1979-1985 i was heavy into BBS's and i was sure i had slapped a couple before i went homeless... after my TRaSh-80 was "stolen" (get out... can't carry it? Boo Hoo!) didn't replace access until IRC was invented so decades may have clouded my mind but if my life had depended on it I'd have sworn it existed before 1986 AD Qazwiz (talk) 18:22, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
