Capitalize
editI'd add the following to the list: Poland and Polish are capitalized. You capitalize words such as Lithuanian, German or American, why not follow the same rule for Poland. //Halibutt 19:45, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Those are just examples... if you want to add Poles/Polish, be my guest. But this whole tip thingie has nothing to do with any wiki-wars. I just got sick and tired of same silly mistakes (resulting from different conventions in English-speaking world and in Lithuania) repeated on every corner. Renata 20:16, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- The point is already made in article, no need to add anything M.K. 20:38, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Nyah, I did not mean this to be any argument, I simply noticed several different Lithuanian users do that mistake commonly, which made me think it is somehow related to some feature of the Lithuanian language. To lighten you up, in Polish putting down the name of some nationality with a small letter is a clear sign of disrespect, as in Polish the basic historical criterion behind capitalization is respect. People are worth respect hence their names are capitalized. Same for some titles and honorary forms (and especially so in letters), not to mention nationalities and such. Interestingly, shortly after the WWII in official commie press the word German was written with a small letter - specifically because of that. //Halibutt 20:55, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- In Lithuanian all nationalities are written with small letters. It took time for myself to adjust. Wouldn't over-emphasize the point. Renata 22:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, if I wanted to refer to some wiki dispute, I'd suggest to add the issue of -is suffix to the list. I mean, the fact that -is is added in Lithuanian does not mean that it's added in other languages as well :) //Halibutt 20:56, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Huh? Don't get your point here. Renata 22:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- He just wanted to teach Lithuanian barbarians some szlachta manners and propose a new Polish-Lithuanian grammar.--Lokyz 21:03, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

- No, Lokyz, that's not what I wanted. Could you at least try to behave a tad more friendly from time to time? As to the issue above, I simply noted that this happens exclusively in the case of Poland/Polish. I could dig up some diffs if you like, but that would take quite some time as it's been quite long ago since I saw the last instance. //Halibutt 00:13, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Guys, could you fight somewhere outside my userspace? Please? Pretty please? Renata 00:30, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I am not fighting at all M.K. 17:18, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Rivers, Lakes
Tad is esmes abu variantai tinka.
Bet dazniausiai "Lake" yra pridedama ir as to laikiausi, kai kuriau lakes of Lithuania. Renata 20:25, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- English, please - it's English wikipedia and noone wants to be accused by some instable people as Cabal or conspiracy:)--Lokyz 21:09, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- In userspace is ok to talk in your native tangue. But, ya, it's not recommended. Renata 21:16, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Cities, Towns
editI feel a little bit schicophrenic when putting to the same location Category:City in Lithania and Category:Town of *** County. We should come to some resolution of this by consensus. Maybe some talk page on Portal:Lithuania would help? there are alot of matter s to discuss--Lokyz 21:33, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- What we really need is Wikipedia:WikiProject Lithuania to coordinate such things. Estonians just created one for themselves... Renata 22:45, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Emh, a link to Estonians please?--Lokyz 22:49, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok found it, it would be quite easy to create Wwikiproject:Lithuania by copying/creative adopting some elements of other wikiprojects. Should we go for it, because as much I've seen Portal:Lithuania does not work, or maybe we should expand it to working status?.--Lokyz 23:16, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, creating a wikiproject is extremely easy. But... it is much harder to make it work. There have been two attempts. I created the portal for all wrong reasons (a n00b mistake) and never really tried to make it work properly (and it's not really intended for collaborations amongst editors). The WP:BSNB worked wonderfully for a while but then Latvians took long vacations from wiki, Estonians never joined, and there were no other Lithuanians around to make any use of it... So it is not really used because no one really tries to resurrect it...
- So the point is that creating Wikiproject takes 5 minutes, making it work... I won't even dare to count. Just check the best-run project (IMHO) Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history. Are you ready for such undertaking? I know I realy badly want this wikiproject since last summer, but I know I am not ready to handle such responsibility. Renata 23:29, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well at least it is worth some efforts - aand lets to explain for new (and not so new) editors basic things - structure of a proper article, usage of templates and categories, a little bit coordinated work on some issues (like icons for stubs for example), and of course sharing expirience as you did with your tips and toughts whats's really necessary, and whats's not at the moment. And because most of new LTU users do state theyr first language, we could also notify them about this portal, and share some important things, so they don't have to find all the basic things themselves. Zyou know, the journey begins from the first step:)--Lokyz 23:53, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Of course, I am not saying "don't do it!" all I am saying is think before you do, plan to invest a lot of time and effort, and don't expect it be be a quick fix for everything. Just trying to show you what kind of undertaking it is. That's all. I really want the project, but an inactive & dead project is worse than nothing. Renata 00:27, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Images form lt.Wikipedia
editIs tehere a way to use some of images form lt.wikipedia in en.wikipedia. becaus if tehre is, this would greatly enhance many articles. Lithuianian wikipedia is rich in illustrations.--Lokyz 11:51, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- you should re-upload them here if the images in LT wiki is not in Commons. M.K. 12:00, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- They seem to be in commons, just somewhat strange address.--Lokyz 12:18, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Could you give a specific example? What image do you want to use? Renata 12:51, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- They seem to be in commons, just somewhat strange address.--Lokyz 12:18, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Here you go [1] image of Antanas Baranauskas.--Lokyz 13:16, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- I believe it is not in Commons dir. Re-upload it here from LT wiki. M.K. 13:23, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yap, it is on LT wiki. I suggest to reupload not on EN wiki, but on [commons.wikipedia.org commons]. The procedures are the same as in EN wiki, but then the image can be used in every language wikipedia. Just don't forget to describe the image, tell where you got it and who was the original uploader. Renata 17:39, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
