Has anyone a view on this article - specifically, the number of non-notable pupils mentioned? Wondering about taking out all names. Tacyarg (talk) 12:33, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Goodyear High School

edit

Could someone from WP:SCHOOLS take a look at Goodyear High School and assess it? It's a newly created article about a school that seems to be still in the process of being built; so, this might be a case of WP:TOOSOON. In addition, the creator has also declared they have a COI with respect to the school because they went to school in the same school district and live in the area. FWIW, that seems a pretty minor COI to me, and the school's Wikipedia notability (or lack thereof) is more of a concern. Perhaps the thing to do here if the school's Wikipedia notability is questionable would be to redirect the article to Agua Fria Union High School District#High schools until a better claim for Wikipedia notability can be made. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:55, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Marchjuly, I've reviewed the sourcing, and it's in the marginal pass range. There are 2 in-depth West Valley News articles, a report by the NBC affiliate 12News, a WESTMARC article which appears to be press release ("Special to Independent Newsmedia"), and a passing mention about the school bond issue on the KJZZ Phoenix FM station webpage. The remainder are primary sources from Agua Fria High School District. I searched newspapers.com, but found only references to Goodyear Millennium High School. There will no doubt be additional news stories as the construction progresses. Perhaps the intermediate solution should be to draftify, since this article is otherwise well-written. — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 17:45, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

American schools changing NCES IDs

edit

Hello! While working on Dollarway High School I found that the school's NCES ID changed when its district changed from Dollarway School District to Pine Bluff School District. It seems the template can only handle one NCES ID at a time. What should be done about this? WhisperToMe (talk) 17:42, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

WhisperToMe I am not familiar with NCES IDs, but the problem is that adding two copies of {{NCES School ID}} generates two different copies of reference "nces_sch", which results in an error message. For example {{NCES School ID|050541000253|school_name=Dollarway High School|access_date=November 12, 2012}} produces
050541000253[1]

A workaround could be to enter the first number without using the template. TSventon (talk) 19:40, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@TSventon: Thank you for the idea! I made that quick fix. It would be nice to make a permanent fix for the template so that multiple NCES IDs can be handled by the same school. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:51, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@WhisperToMe: hopefully someone who is more familiar with US education will come along shortly, otherwise you could ask at the template's talk page.
Another issue is that d:Q5289259 has two NCES school IDs and that is showing as incorrect as well. TSventon (talk) 20:47, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
