Project Directory

edit

Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:

and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:01, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now put the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 23:45, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Day Awards

edit

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 16:01, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template for Disney World Resort

edit

I created a template for the Disney World Resort based on Template:DLR. I have it on a temporary page here and would like to get some feedback before I move it to its own page and use it as a template. Any comments would be appreciated. Phydend 15:00, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The meetup in Miami was originally planned for August/September, but we'll probably be having it around January. Feel free to participate in the planning (exact date/place not decided upon) if you're interested. · AndonicO Talk 23:16, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Project Activity

edit

Since this project has been tagged as inactive, I was wondering if anyone is still interested in working on it? I don't think the project got off the ground really, but we can start it up again if people are willing to work on these articles. I think the most important thing would be for now to tag articles as a part of the wikiproject with a template created for this project (kind of like Template:WP Disney). Once we get some articles tagged, then it would be possible to see what articles we have, find out if we have any featured articles (doubtful) or articles that are close to featured status (maybe), and perhaps get a workforce going to improve some articles. I'm going to get this started and create a template and start tagging some pages. I'm probably going to make the template so that we can assess the articles and put them into categories like these to automatically update assessments. Anyway, I'll do that and try to revive the project so hopefully people will work on it again. Phydend (talk) 03:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well I created the template and the categories so hopefully if others get back here then we can tag all the articles. A page on assessment needs to be created (Wikipedia:WikiProject Walt Disney World/Assessment) that assesses an article's quality and importance and those importance standards need to be determined. I'm going to add the template to a few pages and do some assessing, but will hopefully create the assessment department tomorrow and hopefully get a dialog going. I can help, just point me toward what needs some attention. Arrjay74 (talk) 21:12, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Logo?

edit

I am currently working on a logo for this project. Project London Transport has a logo (which I did not design), why can't we? Malpass93 (talk) 17:11, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

We don't have one currently because the project was pretty much inactive for a few months. I think a logo would be nice and we could add it to the project template to help differentiate this project from WP:Disney (both use the same picture of Cinderella's Castle for the templates on the talk page). Phydend (talk) 16:41, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Maybe used stylized image knockoffs of Spaceship Earth, the Earfel Tower, and the Tree of Life?--Bedford (talk) 19:04, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Here's one of my ideas. Image:ProjectWDW.PNG I wasn't sure what to license it as. Malpass93 (talk) 22:53, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not bad for a first attempt, but needs some fine-tuning. What I would like to see is a Disney Barnstar for both this WP and Disney to use. A Barnstar with Mickey's ear, and maybe Donald's beak, perhaps?--Bedford (talk) 22:34, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Should I add images to this WP?

edit

Covered it in the title. Your thoughts? Malpass93 (talk) 22:05, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since the infoboxes have spaces for photos, should we begin obtaining photos of the attraction entrances for the various articles? I've noticed it's kind of spotty as to which ones do have photos and which ones don't. Is that something we want to strive for? Thanks.
McDoobAU93 (talk) 22:30, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I haven't been paying attention much lately, so sorry if this is not in question anymore, but tagging the images could help us know what we have, so I don't see any objections to it. I also just was reading WP:Gallery on something unrelated and noticed that since galleries are allowed in project space we could create another project page with a gallery of images that would be useful for the project. This would have to be just free pictures (no logos), but we could use them to sort what pictures we have (I know there are multiple pictures of Cinderella's Castle some of which aren't on the article) and what articles would need pictures. We could sort the galleries by the parks and it lets everyone in the project know what pictures we have that they could use for new articles. Thoughts on this? (Sorry if this hijacks the original question, if this discussion gets big I'll split it to it's own section) Phydend (talk) 17:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The weather was nice on Sunday, so I grabbed attraction sign photos throughout Adventureland, which is probably a good starting point. I noticed the only MK attraction that had one was Enchanted Tiki Room. Should I go ahead, be bold, and add them to the infoboxes, or put them somewhere for comments and suggestions? --McDoobAU93 (talk) 17:41, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes. That would be swell, as Mickey would say! Malpass93 (talk) 21:34, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

edit

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles. Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Image:Monorail Shop.jpg removed from Walt Disney World Monorail System due to Fact Tag

edit

I had to remove the image as someone was looking for a citation for the image on what it is called. I saw the image listed as Monorail shop, aka The Roundhouse or Monorail Barn, but someone does not believe that is the real Monorail image from Disney World and challenged it with a fact tag. I do not know if its even possible to find a published source to fix this so I had to remove the image. I am personally upset about it but the rules of Wikipedia dictate the removal of the image because of the tag. You can discuss the removal at Talk:Walt_Disney_World_Monorail_System#Image:Monorail_Shop.jpg Removed From page due to Fact Tag Sawblade05 (talk to me | my wiki life) 18:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Walt Disney World

edit

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7. We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations. A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible. We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Photo project idea

edit

I was wondering if anyone would like to help compile a list of attraction articles whose infoboxes do not have pictures. At the same time, perhaps the project could expand to develop consensus on exactly what the infobox picture should have (the attraction entrance, a signature element, etc.) so that all the infoboxes can have a common theme. The list could be posted on the main WikiProject page, where editors could "claim" photos they want to get (or possibly already have). Opinions? --McDoobAU93 (talk) 17:10, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good idea, possibly using something like what the Sega Project do to group them. In August, I got some photos of various attractions and buildings, which I will upload onto Commons when I get the chance. Malpass93 (talk) 17:29, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK, here's the first list, for the Magic Kingdom. Needs both infobox and photo:

Needs photo:

If you have something to add, please feel free to do so, then remove it from this list. As to what the photo should be of, I think it's a toss-up between the attraction entrance and something that specifically shows this to be WDW's version. Opinions and suggestions welcome ... McDoobAU93 (talk) 03:32, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not much help when it comes to MK, only got a pic of Pirates, which I'll upload ASAP. Unfortunately, that is all I have from that list. Malpass93 (talk) 19:59, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
The infobox and pictures are there now. Can someone improve the infobox, as it is not very good? Here's a link to the template for the infobox. Template:Infobox Disney rideMalpass93 (talk) 19:58, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Milestone Announcements

edit

  • All WikiProjects are invited to have their "milestone-reached" announcements automatically placed onto Wikipedia's announcements page.
  • Milestones could include the number of FAs, GAs or articles covered by the project.
  • No work need be done by the project themselves; they just need to provide some details when they sign up. A bot will do all of the hard work.

I thought this WikiProject might be interested. Ping me with any specific queries or leave them on the page linked to above. Thanks! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 11:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Coordinators' working group

edit

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators. All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:57, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Walt Disney World articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

edit

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Walt Disney World articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

edit

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 27 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
