Why link to the place to spam instead of linking to a "new comment" link on the place to spam to make it easier for the spammer. --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 02:57, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

It makes it easier for AutoWikiBrowser, which is my bot of choice right now. It handles the "new message" thing by itself. Ral315 (talk) 08:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Weekly Signpost

When do you get the weekly Signpost? Also what time do you get it at? FellowWikipedian 21:02, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Monday evenings/Tuesday mornings, as your local time zone dictates. Time varies based on week; this week, I got it out at about 2100 UTC Monday evenings; I try to get it out no later than 0300 UTC Tuesday morning. Ral315 (talk) 02:02, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Notification?

I'm wondering, is there a way to sign up to receive a simple notification when a new issue is published than getting the whole thing dumped onto my talk page? --Cyde↔Weys 20:20, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Your best bet would just be to check every Tuesday around 0400 UTC (I usually finish by then, if not earlier), or put one of the Signpost pages on your watchlist. You could also add Template:Signpost-subscription to your user/talk page; it updates every week. Also, you're on IRC most of the time; I always post in there when it's updated. Right now there are about 6 or 7 things I have to update every week, and I really don't have the sanity to do another one. Ral315 (talk) 22:57, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Although you could do something like User talk:Ilyanep/Signpost, so it doesn't mess up your main talk page... Ral315 (talk) 00:30, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

French version

I added my name for both a French and English version, mostly because I want to improve my French. Hope this is OK. EvocativeIntrigue TALK | EMAIL 23:27, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Edition missing

I didn't get the issue for October 9th, and it seems none of the other foreign-languge subscribers did either… Bug, or just a slip of memory? Jon Harald Søby 11:12, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Slip of memory. Double edition next week, it would appear. Ral315 (talk) 07:38, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
The same seems to be the case this week… =) Jon Harald Søby 20:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Essentially when I get really tired and fall asleep prior to distributing the language editions, I often forget to do so. I'll try to do better :) Ral315 (talk) 00:30, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Still missing *Gives Ral315 a can of Coffee*. Røed 20:15, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I should point out also that due to time zone differences and my propensity for late issues, it's Tuesday in most of the world when I finish. I'll get the spamlist stuff out in the morning. Ral315 (talk) 06:33, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Template:Signpost-textonly for other wikis

Is it possible to post the contents of Template:Signpost-textonly to a template on an other wiki. I like the signpost news, but I don't like a big signpost update on my talkpage every week. So, when this template is also available on other wikis I can simple add it to my Dutch userpage and maybe other pages where users like it. JePe 23:38, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Strange...

I have been waiting for two weeks now, and it havent delivered yet. Fancy I'm 1 of the 0.00001%!!! BTW I set it to leave it here. Can someone tell me why? --GravityTalk 07:21, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

The magic of the bot, I guess... I honestly don't know why it skips some users and not others. Ral315 (talk) 05:03, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I allways get a copy in nl: but the bot missed me on feb 12? Aleichem 12:14, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Occasionally I forget to hit the foreign language wikis (by the time I get to foreign languages, it's often 1 or 2 a.m. local time, and I fall asleep before doing so. My apologies; I'll send out a double issue later tonight. Ral315 » 22:12, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Isn't it possible to add the links to the emails? It'd be more useful than plain text. Waldir 16:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Links aren't possible as far as I know through the Wikimedia e-mail system. I could include the link as well, but you'd have to copy-and-paste it. Ral315 » 01:06, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Some email clients (gmail for example) automatically render links even if the email comes in plain text. Therefore, the copy-paste workaround wouldn't be needed. Would you consider adding the links? Waldir 13:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't see the point of linking to individual pages, as they're all available via one click from the main Signpost page (which is provided as plaintext); adding links would only further the clutter within the e-mails. Ral315 » 19:15, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
I understand, you are right. Then I'll consider adding a bug on bugzilla to allow links (html, to be exact) in wikipedia emails. Waldir 22:21, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
In all likelihood, there's no way that'll be fulfilled; it's too much a spam issue, I'd think. Ral315 » 21:48, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion

Would it be possible for each delivery of the signpost to delete the previous delivery? Regards, Ben Aveling 12:07, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I don't think this is possible. The problem is that there are people who wish to view multiple issues at once, and anyone who archives their page would screw the bot up. Ral315 » 02:30, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
The second one isn't a problem - if you don't find the previous signpost, just ignore it. You'd have to do that anyway to handle new subscribers. I agree that there might be people who want to keep back issues. Just a thought. (This isn't an issue for me any more, I've changed to receiving the signpost via template inclusion.) Muchly appreciate your good work. Regards, Ben Aveling 02:41, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

International delivery

I see that the cross-wiki delivery "be discontinued shortly, and is not accepting any new users.", but how long will this last? And why is it so? I haven't gotten any Signpost delivery since April 9… Jon Harald Søby 12:11, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

It's too much of a hassle to deliver to all the international wikis, honestly. It wasn't much of a problem when the first few people added themselves for delivery on other wikis, but when it became nearly 50 users on 15-20 different wikis, it's absolutely a nightmare. However, I have found a partial solution- I'll be notifying all international users about it this week. I can have the bot deliver to meta, so that I don't have to do it manually at more than one wiki. It's not ideal for users who don't do much at meta, but it's better than nothing. Ral315 » 07:46, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
There are some bots that are registered on every single Wikipedia, perhaps one of them could do the delivery for you? Jon Harald Søby 14:07, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Man

Oh man! I didn't get my Signpost delivery yesterday!!! Will you activate your bot? --  PNiddy  Go!  14:35, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

How about a non-subst'ed delivery

When the signpost is delivered, I would prefer to get single line on the source of my talk page line something like

{{Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost}}

This would

  • Make the code of my talk page more readable. Right now it is tens of lines of obscure HTML/wikimarkup for each delivery
  • Make it easy to make corrections after the delivery

Thue | talk 08:30, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Me too. It would also be nice if there was a periodic cleanup, whereby all the old editions (eg, more than two editions old) got removed. Stevage 05:08, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Sept. 24th delivery

Hey, not sure if this will be seen, or if it's been addressed, but I didn't receive my delivery on the 24th. Is this a mistake of some kind? Thanks! GlassCobra 21:20, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

October 8 not delivered?

I don't know if others have asked this before me on other talk pages, but I haven't received the October 8 Signpost. I've noticed that several other editors on the spamlist haven't received that Signpost either. The same appears to have happened with other users in previous Signposts, judging from this talk page. Is there a bot problem? AecisBrievenbus 23:37, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I signed up for the spam...

...and I haven't got a single edition. I put my name on there, I linked it to my talkpage, and there's nada. -Goodshop 02:10, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

failing to receive the signpost by email

I have been reading the signpost by email for a while, but since the issue 40 I had no more delivered to my email. Actually, now that I stopped to check the emails I got, I noted that several editions are missing, namely (and this is not an exaustive listing) issues 18-21, 32, 35-37 and the 40-44 I already mentioned. What's going on? Waldir 01:47, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

How do you sign up for Signpost?

I've read the instructions on how to sign up to the wikipedia Signpost, but i don't understand how to sign myself up for the signpost, do i just add my user name on the list on the article, I've been testing it out on preview on my talk page but it doesn't appear to work and only hyperlinks appear SKYNET X1000 (talk) 16:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Minor glitch in latest issue

The last Signpost of 2007 arrived in my talk page... with a novelty. Someone must have forgotten to change the link for the WikiProject section, as it still displays last week's project (Plants). It does link to the correct page (India), but I must say that it initially mystified me. Plus, such mistakes tend to assume massive proportions when automated procedures are in place (as in the distribution of the Signpost).

Well, let's just say that the typo fairy wanted to leave her mark for the dying year, then, eh? Cheers, Waltham, The Duke of 01:17, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

That's what happens when I send it while tired. Nothing I can update, though, because it'd trigger the "new messages" bar. Ral315 (talk) 06:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, we shouldn't want that to happen. In any case, I hope that you find the opportunity to rest. I know I shall. :-) Waltham, The Duke of 08:24, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

For some reason I have stopped receiving the signpost - I have not gotten it for the last two deliveries. My name remains on the list. --Rschen7754 (T C) 07:46, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Signpost Delivery

I haven't had the signpost for the last two weeks, the last onw I had was 12 May. Is there something wrong with the delivery bot, or has something chaged in the signup, I'm still listed there. Waacstats (talk) 13:37, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Signpost not arriving

I haven't received the Signpost to my talk page for the past two weeks. Is there any reason why? RolandR (talk) 22:56, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Looking at other subscribers' talk pages, it appears that nobody has received Signpost since the 15 September edition. Could someone check why this is happening, and correct it? RolandR (talk) 08:21, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I haven't received one since 15 September 2008. Benjiboi left a notice here on October 15, 2008 to see if the problem could be addressed. -- Suntag 22:44, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Missing delivery

The last Signpost (May 4) wasn't delivered to my talk page. However, it's not due to the spamlist, as my name still stands there. —Admiral Norton (talk) 11:16, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Page name could be off-putting

One can click on a link that seems to be an invitation to subscribe, but if one were to hover briefly one might see "Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Tools/Spamlist" and decide not to investigate. Robin Patterson (talk) 15:06, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Not Arriving

THe signpost is not arriving at my talk page. I do not know how to fix it. Marx01 Tell me about it 02:18, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

It also has not been delivering at my talk page; the last edition that I have received was the 17 August issue. I'm going to remove and then re-add my name, and see if that works. talkingbirds 17:56, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
I received August 24th's edition today after deleting and re-adding my name. Ahah. I suppose it is solved then! talkingbirds 21:13, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
The problem was the page move. I've fixed it. MC10 (TCGBLEM) 01:55, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Per-article RSS feed

Would it be difficult to provide an RSS feed that actually contains each article as a separate item (instead of one item per issue)? I rarely have the time to sit down and read the Signpost "cover to cover", so I'd like to be able to use normal RSS aggregation software to keep track of which articles I have read. Thanks, Bovlb (talk)
