The Öland is a Swedish breed of domestic greylag goose[1] originating from the island of Öland.

History

The Öland is a traditional breed of Öland and Götaland. It was standardised in the 1920s. The breed was nearly extinct at the 1970s. Today there are 111 registered animals in Sweden.[2]

Characteristics

The plumage is pied white and brown-grey. Ganders generally weigh between 4.5 and 5.5 kg, geese some 4–5 kg. The Öland is similar in appearance to the Skåne, although slightly greyer. It is sometimes used as a watchdog.[3]
