The 1779 Rhode Island gubernatorial election was held on 7 April 1779 in order to elect the governor of Rhode Island. Incumbent Independent governor William Greene won re-election as he ran unopposed. The exact number of votes cast in this election are unknown.[1]

On election day, 7 April 1779, incumbent Independent governor William Greene won re-election as he ran unopposed, thereby retaining Independent control over the office of governor. Greene was sworn in for his second term on 5 May 1779.[2]
