St. Vincent's were the defending champions, however, they failed to qualify after being beaten by Kilmacud Crokes in a semi-final replay of the 2008 Dublin County Championship.[1] There were no representative clubs from Waterford or Wexford due to a delay in the completion of their county championships.
On 17 March 2009, Kilmacud Crokes won the championship following a 1-09 to 0-07 defeat of Crossmaglen Rangers in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park.[2] It was their second championship title overall and their first title since 1995.[3]
Kilmacud's Mark Vaughan was the championship's top scorer with 2-32.
