editMike Büskens was announced as the new head coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf on 4 June.[1] Michael Rensing and Ben Halloran officially transferred to Fortuna Düsseldorf on 1 July.[2] André Fomitschow returned from his loan from Energie Cottbus.[3] Robbie Kruse was sold.[4] Nando Rafael and Robert Almer were released[2][3] Andriy Voronin and Robert Tesche were returned after their loan spells.[3]
The draw for the first round of the DFB-Pokal happened on 15 June.[5] Fortuna Düsseldorf was drawn against SC Wiedenbrück.[5]

editFortuna Düsseldorf's season kicked off on 22 July against Energie Cottbus on matchday one of the 2.
