2024 Bahraich violence

On 13 October 2024, Bahraich saw communal violence between the Hindus and the Muslims following the murder of a Hindu man named Gopal Mishra, after he climbed onto the roof of a house of Abdul Hameed and removed green flag before replacing it with a saffron flag.[2][3]

A number of vehicles and properties were burned by the rioters following the murder of Mishra. Two police officers have been suspended by the Bahraich district administration.[4]

A total of 87 arrests have been made as of 23 October.[1]
