The primary elections took place on May 7, 2024.[1] The Republican Party has held a House majority since 2011.[2]

editThe district has been represented by Republican Jim Lucas since 2012. Lucas was re-elected with 73.7% of the vote in 2022. In May 2023, Lucas was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.[58] Lucas plead guilty to the two charges which are misdemeanors and therefore allowed him to keep his seat in the Indiana General Assembly. Lucas told The Hammer and Nigel Show of WIBC that he had no intention of resigning.[59]
