Background

edit

Primaries were held on June 2, 2024, with Incumbent Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón winning the New Progressive primary defeating Incumbent Governor Pedro Pierluisi. [3] This continued the tradition of the Governor of Puerto Rico only serving one term that started with Governor Sila María Calderón and the Popular Democratic Party twenty years prior in the 2004 Gubernational Election

Territorial representative and president of the Popular Democratic Party, Jesús Manuel Ortiz, would secure the party's nomination for Governor, defeating at-large territorial senator and former Puerto Rico Secretary of Treasury, Juan Zaragoza.
