Host selection
editOn February 17, 2024, Riot Games announced that Seoul will play host to the Valorant Champions, the crowning event of the VCT 2024 season.[3][4]
Background
editThis is the first time since the 2022 season that Riot brought back the Championship circuit, in which all participating teams in the VCT International Leagues get to compete for championship points throughout the season. Across International Leagues Stage 1 and 2 league stage games, teams earn 1 championship point for every match win they win. Teams that emerge as champions during the season's regional Kickoff events, Stage 1, Stage 2, Madrid Masters and Shanghai Masters, gain 3 championship points. In each region, the teams with the most points after Stage 2 playoffs and the top three of Stage 2 qualify for the final tournament.[5]
Qualified teams
editOn June 21, 2024, during the second week of Stage 2 of VCT China, Edward Gaming officially became the first team to qualify for the tournament by securing the minimum required championship points in the circuit. This was after Trace Esports beat FunPlus Phoenix, meaning no other team could match their points haul. However, they can still qualify for the tournament via placements in VCT China Stage 2.[6][7]
