Asociația Club Sportiv Mediaș 2022, commonly known as ACS Mediaș, or simply as Mediaș, is a Romanian football club based in Mediaș, currently playing in the Liga III.
It was founded in 2022, as a phoenix club of Gaz Metan Mediaș which was dissolved in the same summer, due to financial issues. The owners of the new entity are former players and coaches of Gaz Metan who want to continue the football tradition in the city, and also regain the name, crest and records of the defunct club.[1] The nine founding members are Ionuț Buzean, Cristian Pustai, Doru Dudiță, Eric de Oliveira, Claudiu Boaru, Costel Hanc, Eugen Pîrvulescu, Iosif Biro and Dorin Roșca.[2]
History
[edit]ACS Mediaș 2022 was founded in the summer of 2022, shortly after the disappearance of Gaz Metan Mediaș, by a group of former players, coaches and officials associated with the old club, including Ionuț Buzean, Eric de Oliveira, Cristian Pustai and Claudiu Boaru. The new organisation was established as a separate legal and sporting entity, with the stated aim of preserving organised football in Mediaș and continuing the city's football tradition.[3]
The club entered Liga IV Sibiu in the 2022–23 season, won the county championship and earned promotion to Liga III after defeating CS Gheorgheni 5–2 on aggregate in the promotion play-off.[4] ACS Mediaș subsequently established itself in the third tier, qualifying for the promotion play-off in both 2023–24 and 2024–25. In 2025–26, the club finished outside the promotion play-off places but comfortably retained its Liga III status after winning its play-out group. As of August 2026, ACS Mediaș continues to compete in Liga III and is the principal senior football club representing Mediaș in the national league system, while remaining legally distinct from the former Gaz Metan club.

[edit]ACS Mediaș supporters are in fact the supporter of former Gaz Metan Mediaș and has many supporters in Mediaș and especially in Sibiu County. The ultras groups of ACS Mediaș are known as Lupii Negri (The Black Wolves) and Commando Mediensis, former ultras groups of defunct Gaz Metan[5]
