Dorami-chan: A Blue Straw Hat (ドラミちゃん 青いストローハット, Dorami-chan Aoi Sutorō Hatto) is a 1994 Japanese animated science fiction comedy-drama short film.[1] It premiered in Japan on March 12, 1994 on a double feature with Doraemon: Nobita's Three Visionary Swordsmen.[1]
The film's tagline is "The strange robot town where Dorami got lost. A Dorami-style adventure full of love and courage" (ドラミちゃんが迷い込んだ奇妙なロボットの街。愛と勇気がいっぱいのドラミチック・アドベンチャー).

In 22nd century Ginza, Tokyo, Dorami is walking down the streets of the city looking around and gazes at her own reflection on the bottom of a clock when she notices a lanky male purple scarecrow robot with a blue straw hat running from behind her.
The scarecrow robot starts to pick some flowers nearby until the clock strikes at 11am, making him realize that he's close to being late for something and runs off. Dorami looks back at where he was at and realizes the scarecrow robot had forgotten to take his bag with him, deciding to follow after him to return it to him. Dorami follows the scarecrow robot to the House of Mysteries where he had ran into and enters, eventually finding a door inside that shines brightness to her face when she opens it. Dorami enters the door and finds herself having been transported into a colorful fairytale-like dimension.
Dorami hears the voice of the scarecrow robot and hides behind, seeing him getting kicked out of entering a ball hosted by the land's beautiful robotic ruler Princess Aurora by three robots named Big, Face, and Pump, who wish to marry the princess instead. The castle's bridge is closed and the scarecrow robot tries to run back in but is too late and nearly falls to his demise, but is quickly saved by Dorami using a Octo-Rescue Rod from her pocket.
The scarecrow robot tells Dorami that he wishes to talk to Princess Aurora, with Dorami concluding that he has romantic feelings for her and wants to take her hand in marriage. The scarecrow robot express doubt that he'll be able to speak to her with the circumstances and the fact that he is an ordinary scarecrow robot who does nothing but use his gun to scare away crows. Dorami asks why he had come to the 22nd century for some flowers, with the scarecrow robot answering that he wanted to give her very beautiful flowers. Dorami chastises the scarecrow robot for easily choosing to give up after going through the effort to find her beautiful flowers, which makes him realize that Dorami hadn't introduced herself. Dorami introduces herself and the scarecrow robot introduces himself as Crow, with Dorami then telling Crow that he will go see Princess Aurora and that she will help him.
Dorami and Crow both use Takecopters to fly off and see Princess Aurora. Crow asks Dorami why she is being so nice to him, which she answers telling him she feels he could use all the help he can get. The two come across Princess Aurora's castle, the castle changing appearance at quick succession, with Crow explaining that it can do that because everything there is controlled through magic. The two start flying together towards the castle, with Big, Face, and Pump using magic to see that they are heading to Princess Aurora's castle. Pump decides to deal with them himself by blowing Dorami and Crow into a place where he begins to pump out water from his hose and floods it everywhere, leaving Dorami and Crow struggling to stay afloat. Dorami pulls out a Head-Over-Heels Necktie gadget from her pocket and uses it to tie around Pump's hose, preventing him from pumping out more water, also holding onto it amongst the raging twirling whirlpool of water. Crow, struggling to swim, falls onto the Head-Over-Heels Necktie and causes Pump to fall and submerge into the water. Dorami pulls herself and Crow out of the water and as they are both safe, notice that the water is gone and that Pump is lying motionlessly, a bare squirt of water coming out from his now tied hose. Crow starts seizing up and needs oil, with Dorami pulling out her special Stiff-B-Gone Oil spray gadget to restore Crow back to his normal self and the two continue their journey.
Dorami and Crow trek through a dark, colorful cave pathway, with Face appearing from behind them out of camouflage and asking about who Dorami is. Both Dorami and Crow find a way out and come across a colorful flower field, with birds and butterflies flying in the air. Crow decides to pick some new flowers there for Princess Aurora while Dorami gently plays with the birds and butterflies. While picking some flowers, Crow comes across what appears to be a miniature robot toy lying in the field and shows it to Dorami, with the miniature robot transforming to normal appearance as Face, who tells them they won't proceed further on their journey and demonstrates his power by shooting a laser from his eyes that transform some of the birds and butterflies into stone. Dorami and Crow, horrified at what they saw, run away as Face leers behind them in pursuit and Dorami tries to find another gadget in her pocket that can help aid them. Dorami ends up tripping over a stone on the path she and Crow are running on, causing some of her gadgets to spill out from her pocket. Dorami quickly gets back up and quickly grabs a weapon on the ground from her pocket to fire at Face, but it is transformed into stone by Face before she is able to use it. Crow panics at the threat and decides to give up yet again, with Dorami telling him to just be brave and press forward, but Crow starts to try and run away, accidentally grabbing Dorami's compact mirror in one of his hands. Face shoots a laser from his eyes at Dorami and Crow, but the compact mirror in Crow's hands reflects the laser shot back, transforming Face into stone instead. Dorami notices this and praises Crow for his brave action, expressing how she always had believed he could do it, boosting Crow's confidence.
Suddenly, the flowery field transforms into a grassy, crystally land, with Princess Aurora's castle tower in plain sight. Dorami and Crow start running excitedly to the tower, but a deep masculine voice telling them both that he won't let them get to Princess Aurora causes them to halt. Out of the ground comes Big, who has grown into a massive size and aims to destroy Dorami and Crow. Dorami runs away as Big starts swinging punches around, looking through her pocket for another gadget to use. Crow distracts Big by teasing and calling for him moments before Dorami flies and pulls out a Lightning Lure Wand gadget from her pocket, throwing it on top of Big's head, attracting a strike of lightning and successfully defeating him.
Dorami flies over to Crow to check if he's safe, and Crow assures her that he is with a jump and a bounce, causing her to giggle. The two head off to start walking up the long stairway path that leads to the doors of the castle tower. Amongst the remains of Big, his heart known as Heart emerges and uses the remains of his former body to create a wheel and go after Dorami and Crow one final time for revenge. Dorami and Crow stop walking up the stairs to see the robotic wheel going after them, with Crow noticing Heart almost immediately, pulling out his gun and firing at the wheel, sending Heart flying and destroying the wheel. Crow catches Heart inside his hat before placing him inside his gun and fires him away. Dorami remarks that Heart was the one who was controlling them all before Crow gazes in determination at finally getting his chance to see Princess Aurora.
Crow and Dorami finally make it to the entrance and anticipate as Crow walks over to the castle tower's door and is seemingly about to go inside, but visibly halts and stops. Dorami asks what's wrong and tells Crow to just have confidence in himself, as she is sure that Princess Aurora will more than likely accept him with how much he has grown and changed over the course of the journey. Dorami then remarks that the door must be locked and tries to pull out the Pass-Through-Hoop to allow Crow to enter, but is unsuccessful in finding it. Crow stops Dorami from struggling any further and tells her that he found a friend better than getting the chance to see Princess Aurora. Crow walks up to Dorami, reaches out his hand, and tells Dorami that it's her who is the better friend, with the two then holding hands as a bright light shines above them.
Afterwards Dorami and Crow both make their way back from Princess Aurora's castle hand-in-hand, with Dorami stopping to fix Crow's hat for him and tells him to care for himself. Crow reassures her that he'll do his best before they continue to hold hands and make their walk back together.
Back at the streets of Ginza, Tokyo in the 22nd century hours later, Dorami walks up and gazes at the same clock from earlier, now a few hours later. As she gazes above, Crow appears in the reflection of the bottom of the clock and winks at her, causing Dorami to turn around to see if he is there, but isn't. Dorami simply giggles with a smile and starts walking off to the streets again.

Production
[edit source]Dorami-chan: A Blue Straw Hat is the fourth and final theatrical Dorami-chan short film.
The film's title is derived from the blue hat of the character Crow.
The previous Dorami-chan short films used "Hello! Dorami-chan" performed by Satoko Yamano, but A Blue Straw Hat instead uses "Tomodachi Nanoni" performed by KŪKO.
Previous Doraemon films were shot in 4:3 and screened using the Masking Vista method, which involved adding black bars at the top and bottom of the screen; however, this film was the first to be shot in 16:9. It was put on hold for a while afterward until being fully implemented starting with Doraemon: Nobita's Great Adventure in the South Seas in 1998.
