Abdul Hannan Masud was one of the coordinators of a student movement; Anti-discrimination Students Movement, which opposed quotas in government jobs and evolved into a campaign to remove Prime Minister Hasina from power.[12] He served as the Finance Secretary and Joint General Secretary of the People's Right Council (গণ অধিকার পরিষদ ). He was one of the founding members of Democratic Student Force (গণতান্ত্রিক ছাত্রশক্তি) . Later on, Masud along with Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, and others gained national recognition in mid-July 2024 when police detained several students of Dhaka University [13] as the protests became violent.[14][15] In the aftermath, on August 5, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country.[16] Abdul Hannan Masud stated that their goals weren't fully met, and following Hasina's resignation, the group aimed to "abolish fascist systems forever".[17] He and his organization called Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus to lead an interim government.[18][19] He prefers moderate politics.[20][21][22]
