History

edit

On January 24, 2019, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission announced that it was constructing a new $150 million 193,000-square-foot hospital in Overland Park, Kansas with 85 beds.[2][3] It expected that the new hospital would create 200 full-time jobs.[2][3] On October 11, 2019, construction workers began construction of AdventHealth South Overland Park.[4] Rocks had to be broken at the 14.5-acre site of the hospital, all total 12,000 cubic yards were removed.[5]

On November 13, 2020, AdventHealth and GE Johnson celebrated the topping out of AdventHealth South Overland Park.[6]

AdventHealth South Overland Park will open with 38 beds, and have enough land for the hospital to expand to 150 beds in the future.[7][8] It was built next to AdventHealth South Overland Park ER and a medical office building which were constructed in 2017.[5][8] Laura Kelly was at the opening ceremony of the new hospital.[8][9] On October 7, 2021, AdventHealth South Overland Park began admitting patients.[10][11][12] It became the first new hospital to open in the Kansas City metropolitan area in 15 years.[7]
