It was built in 1881 as an Anglican church for the local congregation that had to earlier travel some 8 kilometres to St. Thomas Cathedral in Fort.[1] It was designed by Major Mant of the Royal Engineers, and the foundation stone was laid by Lady Ferguson, wife of Sir James Fergusson, 6th Baronet, the then Governor of Bombay.[2] It was consecrated on 16 January 1882.[3]
