Ana Lupan (12 September 1922–23 February 1998) was a Soviet and Moldavian writer, laureate of the State Prize of the Union of Soviet Writers (1984).
Biography
[edit]Ana Lupan was the sister of the poet Andrei Lupan. She graduated from the Agricultural School in Cucuruzeni in 1950 and from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow in 1960.[1]
Career
[edit]She published her first work in 1950 with the story Stejarul. In 1955, her prose collection Drumul spre sat was published, which included stories about the Bessarabian village and two years later, in 1957, the collection Lasarea vantului sa ma bata was published, inspired by the life of village teachers. In 1963, the collection Flori de toamnă was published, and in 1964, Buruieni de dragoste. The writer also worked in the drama genre: in 1966, she published the volume Roata vremii, Las' că-i bine...'. In 1970, the collection of stories Toaca iernii was published.[1]
Meanwhile, the author also wrote epic works of large dimensions: the novels Țarină fără plugari and Regăsirea (1963, 1974), Neagră-i floarea de cireș (1977) and Vâltoarea (1988), which, according to the literary critic Mihai Cimpoi, present a devastating human document. In 1982, she published the book Scrieri alese in two volumes.[2][3]
The writer's work contains a fragment of a contradictory reality, thirsty for high ideals and plagued by bitter disappointments. This author's works have been translated into Mandarin, English, Slovenian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Kazakh, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, and Ukrainian.[4]
Award
[edit]In 1995, the President of Moldova awarded her the state title of Professor of Literature as a national award.she also held the Order of Labour.[5][6]
