Anuv Jain is an Indian singer songwriter and composer.[1][2] He is known for his baritone voice and simple chorded songs with lyrics that deal with love and heartbreak.[3] His music primarily contains an acoustic guitar or ukulele, unaccompanied by percussion or other instruments.[1][4][5]

Considered among one of the most popular Indian indie artists,[6][7][8] "Baarishein" (2018), "Alag Aasmaan" (2020), "Gul" (2021) and "Husn" (2023) are some of his best known works.[9][10][11][12] Husn charted at No.1 on Apple Music India and Spotify India charts for all genres.[13][14] He featured in the Forbes India 30 Under 30 List of 2023.[15][16]
Early life
editJain was born in Ludhiana, India. In the 10th grade, he started to make songs in English. But on the recommendation of his guitar instructor, he started experimenting with Hindi lyrics and found a natural attraction for it.[17] When he was 19 years old, his father died after having been in a coma for two years, and Jain began to write songs as a way to express his emotions".[18][19]
Career
edit2018-2019: Breakthrough with "Baarishein"
editJain began uploading original work on his YouTube channel, the first song being "Meri Baaton Mein Tu", followed by "Baarishein" which was a sleeper hit. In an interview with Rolling Stone India, he said he takes inspiration from real life events and writes songs over a period of months.[20]
In 2016, he released his first single "Baarishein". In an interview with GQ India he told that he wrote the song when he was 16 for a girl with whom he was in love.[21] "Baarishein" became his first song to cross 100 and 200 million streams on Spotify.
2020-2022: Continued acclaim with "Gul"
editDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to pursue music as a full-time career.[1] During the lockdown, he released a number of songs among which "Alag Aasman" and "Gul" became hits. He has performed live shows across the country[22][23] and at international venues including UK, Australia, Dubai, Nepal and others.[24][25][26][27]
Jain was one of the lead singers in Post Malone's India concert in 2022.[28] In an interview with Hindustan Times, he expressed his desire to sing for Ranbir Kapoor in his film.[29]
2023-present: "Husn" and further works
editHis 2023 release "Husn" became a smash hit and garnered more than 50 million streams on Spotify within the first month of its initial release[30] and proceeded to cross 300 million streams across all platforms in 3 months becoming his biggest commercial hit. It became his second 200 million streamed track on Spotify India.[31][32]
In April 2024, Jain joined the Sounds Right organised by the United Nations.[33] An innovative global initiative to collect funds for the cause of nature conservation using nature's own sounds like ocean waves, rainstorms, wind and others, the initiative used the sound of Indian rains for 'Baarishein'.[34][35]

Jain writes songs that are soulful, romantic, and, at times, melancholic. Though he released only two singles in 2022, Anuv grew to 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, which is a huge achievement for an indie artist.
