Journalism and literary criticism career

edit

Arnaud Viviant began his career at the newspaper Libération, where he worked as a music critic specializing in rock, as well as a television and literary critic. He later joined the editorial staff of Best magazine, and then Les Inrockuptibles, a cultural magazine of which he was one of the founders.[3]

On the radio, Viviant has contributed to Radio Nova. He has been a regular presence on the literary panel of Le Masque et la Plume (fr) on France Inter for many years.[4] He also participated in the radio show Système Disque in the 2000s and held a literary segment titled "Un livre sous le bras" in 2011–2012 on the same station.[5]

Starting in 2003, he has been directing the "Chroniques" collection at the publishing house Léo Scheer [fr].[6][full citation needed]

He is a member of the jury for two literary prizes, the Prix Décembre and the Prix de Flore.

In 2012, Viviant launched the quarterly politico-literary magazine Charles, modeled after the former American magazine George. In 2019, along with former Secretary of State and former MP Thomas Thevenoud and Henri J. Nijdam [fr],[7] head of Le Nouvel Économiste, he bought Charles from its previous publisher, La Tengo, which had suspended its publication in 2018 due to low circulation.
