Vendela Astrid Young (born August 16, 1962[2][3]) is a Canadian musician, artists, author and sommelier. She is the daughter of journalist, sportswriter, and novelist Scott Young and his second wife Astrid Carlson, and the half-sister of fellow musician Neil Young.[4][5][6]

After a brief run with 1980s glam metal group Sacred Child, she released three solo albums, Brainflower in 1995, Matinee in 2002, and Night at Giant Rock in 2014, which was co-produced by Victor DeLorenzo.[7] In 2002, she performed lead vocals and played the bass guitar on the rock band iST's album Pokalolo Paniolo. She has collaborated with her brother (Neil Young} numerous time including on the albums Unplugged,[8] Road Rock Vol. 1[9] the Grammy-nominated[10] Harvest Moon and Are You Passionate?.[11] As a session musician, Young has appeared on more than 30 albums,[12][13] and has co-written music with many fellow musicians, including Johnny Cash, Nancy Wilson, Bernie Taupin, Nicolette Larson, Lisa Dalbello, Martin Page, West Arkeen, Graham Bonnet, Gerry Goffin, Dramarama,[14] and her husband Ray Farrugia a founding member of the Canadian rock bands Junkhouse and Lee Harvey Osmond.[15]

Aside from touring and recording, Young is a certified sommelier amassing award-winning wine collections and has served as a wine judge.[31][32][33] Young has been a "director of wine" for numerous establishments near her homesteads in Toronto and Picton, Ontario, the latter is where she maintains her art gallery.[32][34] Young both wrote and starred in a short film titled Haunted in 2001.[35][36] This was followed in 2007 by a best-selling memoir titled Being Young - Scott, Neil and Me about Young's childhood, her relationship with her father, brother and her own singer-songwriter career and journey to become an international sommelier.[37]
