The Bánffy family is an ancient Hungarian noble family, descending from Losonczi family, branch of Tomaj family.[1] Members of the elder branch held the title of Baron Bánffy de Losoncz, granted to them in 1729 by Charles VI, while members of the younger line of the family were awarded with the title of Count in Austria, granted to them on 20 May 1855 by Franz Joseph I of Austria.[2][3]
