Baby Tower, also known as abandoned infant tower or baby girl tower, is an architectural structure in Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and other places in ancient China."A 'Baby Tower', Ningbo". Usually it is a small tower-shaped building made of bricks and stones. There is a small hole on the top, which is used to abandon dead infants, disabled infants, female infants and unwanted babies. The Baby Tower is described as a donation from wealthy people in the countryside at that time, used to prevent residents from cruelly drowning babies with their own hands. The pagoda architectural style is intended to suppress the spirit of the female baby with the power of Buddhas and gods, to prevent her from being reincarnated and returning back.[1]

In addition to poverty, some opinions believe that this is the gender selection of infants caused by the traditional patriarchal clan society in the southeast coast of China, and is related to the significant gender imbalance in China.
