Distribution
editBironella is predominantly found in Australia, with one species, Bironella obscura, also found in New Guinea.[3]
Species
editThe genus Bironella comprises eight described species, which are divided into three subgenera: Bironella Theobald (two species), Brugella Edwards (three species), and Neobironella Tenorio (three species).[4]
Phylogenetic relationships
editWithin the subfamily Anophelinae, Bironella appears to be the sister taxon to the genus Anopheles. In contrast, Chagasia forms the outgroup, highlighting its distinct evolutionary lineage within this subfamily.[5]
