Early life
editWalker was born in Gaylord, Michigan, in 1951. He is the son of Jerrold and Yvonne Walker. He was raised on a crop farm in Alba, a small agricultural community, alongside his brother and sister. The Walker family embraced skiing as a shared recreational activity, leading all members to acquire the skill. Demonstrating remarkable aptitude in the sport, Brock was selected for six distinct Junior National Teams and achieved the title of United States Junior National Ski Champion in 1971.[2]
Career
editWalker began his career from ski-racing, however, due to injuries, he announced his retirement from the sports, and opened a clinic in 1978.[2]
As muscular-skeletal complaints became more apparent during the 1980s and 1990s, Walker began to turn his focus from the clinical treatment of patients to product development and innovations aimed at preventing many of these problems. In 1990, Walker sold his practice and launched new companies that focus on solving human interface problems that cause muscular-skeletal ailments.[2][4] He invented Medically Engineered Active Response Systems (MEARS) for back support, which is adoptable to travelers and vehicles.[5]
Walker has contributed to the development of ergonomic seating technology for Indy 500 champions, NASA, and Herman Miller designs.[6]
With Herman Miler he invented PostureFit™ and Zonal Support and Distribution Technologies found in Herman Miller High-Performance.[5][7]
NASA
editHe also collaborated with Geiger International. His work with NASA included being an advisor for the International Space Station X-38 Crew Return Vehicle (CRV) Program, Seat Technology, Future Crew Exploration Vehicles, Astronaut Protection and Safety, Appointment by NASA/Johnson Space Center to Universities Space Research Association’s (USRA) Division of Space Life Sciences (DSLS), industry advisor for Mission to Mars Constellation Project.[1]

He has consulted and reviewed Surgical Robotic Systems for improving surgical interface designs and was part of the Logitech 2018 Cognitive Performance Panel.[1]
