Burnhill Junction was a military railway[1] goods station that served the Saltersgate Ammunition Depot[2] in the village of Waskerley in County Durham, England. It was located at the junction of both the Bishop Auckland and Weardale Railway line from Bishop Auckland to Blackhill between Wear Valley Junction and Tow Law. As well as the Stanhope and Tyne Railway between Stanhope and Consett.[3]

History
editThe station was opened by the Ministry of Supply in 1939 and was used for storing munitions and ammunition between World War II and the events of the Cold War before closing in 1969. The station was not open for public train services, although it is believed the station was used for special military personnel services to and from the depot. The site is now since been cleared and has laid in a derelict state. The former railway line now forms part of the Waskerley Way between Tow Law and Consett.[4][5]
