- 16th century in the Habsburg Netherlands (1482–1581) — the Holy Roman Empire fiefs in the Low Countries ruled by the Habsburg dynasty.
- It included present day Belgium and much of the present day Netherlands. In 1556 its "Seventeen Provinces" became the Habsburg Spanish Netherlands. In 1581 the "Seven United Provinces" seceded to form the independent Dutch Republic. The remaining territory became the Habsburg Spanish Southern Netherlands.
