Doric Greek dialect of Ancient Greek language or West Greek with two subgroups: North West Greek and Doric proper. Sources on the Doric vernacular are mainly the Doric inscriptions and ancient lexica (e.g. Hesychius). Literary Doric (choral lyric, Sicilian comedy, epigrams) is a highly conventionalized language used also by non-Dorians (e.g. Theban Pindar and the chorals of Attic tragedy).[1]
