- 1792–1800: Chief Justice of the United States, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Attorney General
- 1801–1817 Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Pennsylvania, U.S. Attorney for the District of Pennsylvania, Commissioner of Loans for the State of Pennsylvania.
- 1818–1836 Judge and U.S. Attorney as above, Collector of the Port of Philadelphia.
- 1837–1873 Judge of the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Collector of the Port of Philadelphia, such other persons as the President shall from time to time designate.
- 1874–1980 Judge of the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Comptroller of the Currency, Assayer of the Assay Office at New York such other persons as the President shall from time to time designate.
No members of the public appointed after 1977; Commission abolished in 1980.
