This category contains articles relating to artists, illustrators, draughtspeople, photographers, and others who are notable for their work in reproducing and preserving pre-Columbian art, architecture and inscriptions of Mesoamerica.
While not original works in themselves, the works produced by these artists —drawings, engravings, lithographs, photographs, etc—form an important part of the corpus of Mesoamerican study materials; particularly in the case of earlier artists, their works often record artefacts, inscriptions and monuments that are no longer extant in the modern day, or have been heavily damaged in the intervening period.
In still other cases, the works produced by these artists have significantly shaped some modern perceptions of ancient Mesoamerican art and architecture, as they have often been the main visual record available to the public-at-large. This is equally true of those whose reproductions are noted for their fidelity to the originals, as it is for those whose reproductions have been noted as inaccurate and deficient.
