Treaties concluded or ratified by the Republic of China (1949–1971). In 1949, the People's Republic of China became the de facto government of the Chinese mainland, but the Republic of China continued to be recognised by many states and organisations as the de jure government of China; therefore, the Republic of China continued to conclude and ratify treaties in the name of "China". The People's Republic of China replaced the Republic of China as the holder of China's seat at the United Nations on 25 October 1971. Since this date, the People's Republic of China has either denounced or confirmed China's acceptance of many of the treaties the Republic of China ratified. Therefore, treaties ratified by the Republic of China between 1949 and 1971 may or may not be currently in force for China.
