Reason for this category's existence
edit1. Could somebody please explain the reason for this category's existence? It seems bizarre and arbitrary.
2. In English and American usage, "establishment" doesn't mean "something that is established". It can only refer to a building or institution, but as used in both the UK and the US it is an old-fashioned term for a shop or bar. If this category needs to exist at all, the title needs changing to Institutions and awards established in Germany in 1936.Robocon1 (talk) 09:21, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
The title of the overarching category also needs changing from "1930s establishments in Germany" to Institutions and awards established in Germany 1930-39 Robocon1 (talk) 09:38, 22 December 2013 (UTC) And "Category:20th-century establishments in Germany" needs changing to German institutions and awards of the 20th centuryRobocon1 (talk) 09:45, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Etc, etc, etc.Robocon1 (talk) 10:02, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- What the heck are you on about? Just have a look in Category:1936 establishments in the United States and Category:1936 establishments in the United Kingdom and see what is listed there. Clearly the English word "establishment" is used in more then one context on the English Wikipedia, and not just in relation to Germany! Calistemon (talk) 11:43, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Oh Gosh Yes! Crikey Blimey! What the Heck! If there's a list like this about America and the jolly old UK it must be blinking well okay! - Except it isn't. The fact that these lists of things that are unconnected in any way except the year of their inception also exist on English language wikipedia doesn't justify their existence or vindicate the grammatical idiosyncrasy of the title (although perhaps it may seem to make perfect sense if you translate from German using a dictionary and have limited knowledge of English usage). So your post hasn't answered any of the points I've made. I repeat: can anyone explain what use these lists serve? Robocon1 (talk) 07:53, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
