Contested deletion
editThis category should not be speedy deleted as being unpopulated, because I created it because was a non-empty redlink. After seeing the speedy notification, I checked why it had become empty, and spotted that User:Green Giant had emptied itGiantoldid=775782092 before nominating it for deletion as empty.
That's naughty. If you think the category shouldn't exist, take to WP:CFD for a consensus-forming discussion. But don't just empty it and then say "oo, look its empty". So I have reverted the edit which emptied the category. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:18, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- When I removed the category from the file it was the only file in that category. I didn't see the logic of a one-item category but now that you've added a second album cover, I've removed the speedy request. Green Giant (talk) 17:34, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Green Giant: thanks for removing the speedy. But this was never an appropriate use of speedy. If you went to delete a category, seek a consensus to do so, rather than sneakily emptying it. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:48, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- There was no sneakyness involved. If you look at the file history, you'll see I reviewed the file rationale a couple of days ago. Today I looked at it again and added the speedy straight after removing the cat, and then notified you on your talk page. That is hardly sneaky but I'm too thick-skinned to take offence at your insinuation. Green Giant (talk) 21:11, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Green Giant: yes, you were open about the notification, and thanks for that.
- But I am not insinuatuing anything. I am directly saying that you acted sneakily. The sneakiness lay in the fact you emptied the category without disclosing that you had done so. I found out about that only because I have seen this trick before, so I checked your contributions to see if it was you who had removed pages from the category.
- The fact remains that this was a valid non-empty category which you wanted to delete because you thought it was undersized. You were quite entitled to nominate it for discussion at WP:CFD ... but what you actually did was to remove from page from a category in which which belonged in order to qualify the categ for speedy deletion.
- You used WP:Twinkle to make the speedy nomination. With Twinkle, it is just as easy to make a full CFD nomination. Next time you see a category which you think is too small, please can you do that? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:52, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
