Thematic article?
editThis is an index of articles about individual prison-camps.
Should there not be an article on the theme of Civil War prison-camps in general - explaining the parole system, and how they became shockingly overcrowded after Grant ended the system of prisoner-exchange? 86.180.124.119 (talk) 23:24, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- At least two articles, one South, one North. Mary Chesnut said on June 29, 1862, remarking on the capture of 12,000 union prisoners. "Prisoners! My God! What are we to do with them? We can't feed our own people!"
- The North got sick of capturing the same people over and over. Rather than shooting them on the spot (the result of forfeiting their parole), it seemed reasonable to end the war as quickly as possible by putting as many (Southerers) out of commission as possible, and (BTW) to force them to feed Union prisoners they could ill afford to feed. It was not a one-man decision. Student7 (talk) 21:18, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
