I created the "artists" category when I needed to add a person who was a painter — in the context of fine art — and there was no other suitable category. I considered making "artists" a parent category that would include all the various artist sub-categories, such as painters, musicians, singers, etc., but given the relatively small number of pages linked here, I simply added "artists" as a sub-cat of "occupations" — on the same level as "musicians."
Doing this, however, means that "artists" does not include "musicians", which has its own category. Hence, I suggest adding explanatory text to the "artists" category to distinguish it from musicians and other kinds of artists — something like: "This category is for creators of drawings, illustrations, paintings, or sculpture." Then, if needed, sub-cats of "artists" might include Pop artists, Comic artists, etc. — Wjwalrus (talk) 16:44, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
