Frankly, I do not believe that this category is well-conceived. Many of the names placed in this list would dispute being dubbed either Catholic or socialist. Dorothy Day would not have referred to herself as a socialist, but as a Christian anarchist. I can find no sourcing of Gustavo Gutierrez describing himself as a socialist. Some of the political figures in the list would not be regarded as Catholic by church authorities. I would recommend restricting inclusion in this category to those who would define themselves as a Catholic socialist, not those for whom the terminology is applied by their critics.

Allow me to narrow my remarks about Dorothy Day, she changed her description of herself after her conversion. She would not have applied both labels at the same time.
