An editors has removed Category:Religion and society, saying, "the groups refered to as 'cults' aren't necessarily religious in nature",[1] and Category:New religious movements, saying, "don't be silly - it isn't logical".[2] Yesterday the same editor moved Cults and new religious movements in literature and popular culture to New religious movements in literature and popular culture, saying, "move to all-encompassing, more neutral title".[3] That implies that cults are encompassed within NRMs. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 23:56, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please refer to the discussion under the proposal link. Will Beback is contradicting himself. Sfacets 08:01, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

What "proposal" link? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 09:04, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

this one. Sfacets 09:28, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

So which do you support? The view that all cults are NRMS, or the view that some cults are NRMs and some NRMs are cults? I think the latter is a more accurate summary of general usage. Enough are religious to make the religious categories applicable. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 10:12, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't see any consensus here so I'm going to restore the categories. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 18:41, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

So are you saying all the groups are religious? Sfacets 21:54, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Which groups? This category only includes articles on gneral topics, not articles about specific groups. "Cult" is considered by many to be a synonym for "new religious movement". ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:45, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Why was the NRM category removed again? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 05:14, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
According to the discussion at List of groups referred to as cults, it has been established that a Cult is not necessarily a recent phenomenon. Sfacets 05:48, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Which section? Is this a current discussion? Maybe I missed it. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 06:05, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
The entire current discussion. Sfacets 14:37, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
None of it concerns NRMs. It concerns a 1920 criteria for a list. Unless you can provide a reaosn here that we can agree on I'll restore the category. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 00:49, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The 1920 definition. Exactly. An NRM is a recently formed religious movement. A 'cult' isn't necessarily. Sfacets 06:50, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Aside from the list, which article in the category deals with old cults? Inclusion in a category isn't meant to define every aspect of a topic. Categories are a navigational tool. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 17:36, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

What category is there for the cults themselves? Shouldn't there be a category so you can find a list of cults? Like this one: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Category:Cults - you can see there are also categories for cult leaders. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.237.246.45 (talk) 06:31, 28 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
