This is my first post on Wiki, so I hope people will tell me if I've not got this quite right.
I know there has been some previous discussion about the presence of the Sandham Memorial Chapel on this list and I would have to say I don't think that it should be. It is not a museum, nor is it an art gallery, it remains just as it was when first built, a wonderfully decorated consecrated chapel whose primary purpose, as intended by Spencer, is religious contemplation and worship; indeed I am going down there for a service in a few weeks time.
I am old enough to remember the chapel when Louis and Mary (Behrend) still owned it, and I know that when they gifted the custody to the National Trust there was no agreement whatever that its status should be any different.
If the Oratory of All Souls is to be counted as a museum, then surely every grade 1 chapel, church and cathedral qualifies, and presumably every other grade 1 property in the care of the National Trust too.
As an aside, the paintings have recently been cleaned and the results are wonderful; those who've been before will not be disappointed if they make a return trip.
I have certainly not dared edit the article, but if someone would be kind enough to e-mail me on the finer points of site etiquette in such matters I would be very grateful.
