The first event was held at Torquay on Easter Sunday 1962 and was won by Peter Philp (dec'd) , Neil Inglis was second with John Hayden (Dec'd) third. The second event was held on New Years Day 1963 and was won by Peter Troy. Subsequent events have been won by such notables as Terry Wall, George Day( Warrnambool) and Barry Rogers (Dec'd, Maroubra). The event is known as the "Jim Wall" Torquay Iron Man , and was the first and is the longest continuous running Iron Man event in the World. The annual date of the event is usually held in January and has now included a female title as well , first won in 2014 by Harriet Brown..
