Once all the articles are made, the forts in the Columbia District/New Caledonia (Canada) could use t heir own cat....either Category:Hudson's Bay Company forts in the Columbia District plus Category:Hudson's Bay Company forts in New Caledonia or Category:Hudson's Bay Company forts on the Pacific Slope which would allow the inclusion of Fts Stikine and Taku and others which were not in the Columbia Department or New Caledonia (though administered as part of the Columbia Department, I think). Also Fort Astoria, which was Fort George under NWC ownership, was not HBC, I think......well, sort of, in that the NWC is a predecessor company, but....Skookum1 (talk) 17:20, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

My mistake, just read the article, Fort George was HBC from 1821 until its closure 1825-29, then reopened 1830-48....how a place that was British-run for most of its existence was "the first permanent American settlement on the Northwest Coast" is a bit of a reach; part of US national/manifest destiny mythology I know, but untrue; I'll add some stuff later on the diplomatic upshot of the Raccoon's erstwhile seizure of the fort and how it played into US hands.....Skookum1 (talk) 17:26, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

breakdown of cat by region or dept

edit

Just thinking after editing Fort Rupert that Category:Hudson's Bay Company forts in the Pacific Northwest or Category:Hudson's Bay Company forts on the Pacific Slope is called for; Category:Hudson's Bay Company forts of the Columbia Department/Category:Hudson's Bay Company forts in New Caledonia is even more specfici, and maybe a better idea although there's some overlap; i.e. using hte actual fur districts to breakdown the cat....also "forts and posts" might be a better phrasing. The reason for the Pacific Northwest/Pacific Slope context is because of forts now in US territory; Yerba Buena (San Francisco) was not a fort but a post, likewise Oahu (whatever the town location there), so "forts and posts" could incldue those....Skookum1 (talk) 04:28, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

sort by alphabet?

edit

Does each article have t o have a sort pipe/default sort tag added to it so that e.g. Fort Berens will be under 'B' instead of 'F'? Would seem better if it could be.Skookum1 (talk) 09:44, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
