A Greater Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway?
editCan anyone explain to me (a comparative Wiki newcomer) how railways such as the Hull and Selby Railway, the Leeds and Selby Railway and the York and North Midland Railway come to be categorised as 'Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway' - a company that never owned or operated any of those three railways?
From memory the H&S and the L&S became part of the Y&NM which was a founder member of the North Eastern Railway - a competitor to the L&Y. Further the NER became part of the LNER, wheras the L&Y became part of the LMS.
I have not yet figured out the logic of Wiki categories but here there is no logic to figure with!
