Inappropriate move

edit

This undiscussed move was not a good idea. The previous name of the category was perfectly valid & clear. Now we have "Legendary" - a term also widely used for very famous people of all kinds. Why wasn't this discussed? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 05:26, 6 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Rathfelder argued that it meets criterion C2C for speedy renaming ("Consistency with established category tree names"). Since the parent category is Category:Legendary people, I agree, though I also see your point about a possible ambiguity - then the parent category (and all its relevant sub-categories) should be renamed. The discussion about Welsh legendary characters may also be of interest. Huon (talk) 08:46, 6 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

The main topic here is legend, the folklore genre. Dimadick (talk) 07:47, 7 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I agree it was a bad move and definitely should not have been speedied. The category contained numerous articles related to Norse mythology, which is not synonymous with legend. I'm rectifying this by creating a new category and reorganising the articles and category structure. MClay1 (talk) 05:21, 29 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Scope of page

edit

This page seems a bit odd in its coverage to me. We have Saxon royalty who are definitely not Norse and Wayland who is Germanic more widely and in the Norse source is Finnish/Sámi and again thus not a Norseman. I'm not sure as to the benefit of this page over "List of figures in Germanic heroic legend". --Ingwina (talk) 20:15, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
