As a musician I would like to inform, whoever it might concern that a drummer can NOT be modal. The notion "modal" pressumes that the instrument is able to perform a sequence of tones of different pitch. The drums are percussion instruments and can not produce such sequences. Elvin Jones was a drummer, who played with other musicians involved in the modal jazz (saxophonists, trumpeteers, pianists, etc).
