Perhaps the name of this category should be changed to "Non-free images of book covers" because non-free content and fair use are not the same, and the former is more reflective of the terminology used in the relevant Wikipedia policy that covers this type of image use. In addition, the sentence "Images in this category are claimed to be fair use book cover images under United States copyright law." probably should also be changed to "Images in this category are claimed to be non-free book cover images under Wikipedia's non-free content use policy." There are many things allowable under the concept of fair use that aren't allowed under relevant Wikipedia policy and mixing up the two can lead to confusion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:21, 3 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

I totally agree. This category was created years before we started better clarifying "non-free" in other templates and categories, and it looks like we missed it! I don't personally think this is a controversial change: it contains 18K images, but updating {{Non-free book cover}} should repopulate the renamed category instantly. But a CFD is probably best practice.— TAnthonyTalk 17:02, 3 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
