Wikipedia shows:-
While bombings in Great Britain tend to have had more publicity, 93% of killings happened in Northern Ireland.
Republican paramilitaries have contributed to just under 60% of these (though just under 40% of civilian deaths are attributed to these groups).
Loyalist paramilitaries account for a higher proportion of civilian deaths (those with no military or paramilitary connection) according to figures published in Malcolm Sutton’s book, “Bear in Mind These Dead: An Index of Deaths from the Conflict in Ireland 1969 - 1993”. According to research undertaken by the CAIN organisation, based on Sutton's work,
85.6% of Loyalist killings,
35.9% of all killings by Republican paramilitaries
52.9% by the security forces
took the lives of civilians between 1969 and 2001.
The Security Forces did not actually take that high a proportion of actual Civilian Lives as the PIRA and UlsterFf types were of course in Civilan clothing.
[Footnote I have been told that Seamus Cusack was sent to get his kid brother back out of melee before 'something happened'] Seamus's family were known for their Crown Service in HMF in Lanndanderry [to use the ald gaelic roots of the official name].
